On procrastination

About 2 months ago I saw a post from someone I know requesting web coding help to create a "live scoring" webpage for a major disc golf tournament coming up in New England, the MSDGC. I volunteered my services, and talked a bit with the guy in charge about what would need to be done, what he wanted the system to do, etc.

Then, after some initial sketching of database ideas and the like, I did nothing. And did nothing. And then Worlds came. And then I was back home, less than 2 weeks to the event itself, with no database created and no code written. Whoopsie.

So right now I'm in the throes of coding the entire site, from scratch, under the gun before the event happens 5 days from now. In all honesty the code is coming along nicely, and nearly all of the basic things I need it to do, it does. I'm currently writing the admin side of the script so that whoever is driving the laptop at the event can add/edit players, enter scores, etc... but there's still a rather large "cherry on top" feature of the site that the event coordinator would really like done and, quite honestly, so would I. And I have probably 3 nights' worth of time to bang this all out in.

There's nothing quite like working under pressure, especially when it's not even for my job. At least I'm interested in what I'm working on, because it makes dedicating my time that much easier. But it would have still been nice to not put myself in this situation and started on this a long time ago. Not much I can do now. Fingers crossed this gets finished and runs without a hitch this weekend :)
