Dem Bones

Last night I wateched the Series Premiere of Bones on Fox. The female lead is Emily Deschanel, who has been in Cold Mountain, The Alamo, and Spiderman 2. The male lead is David Boreanaz, best known for the character Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and then the spinoff show named for his character. I thought David delivered an ok performance, altho he's still a little too rigid and "Angel-esque" for my liking. I understand he's an FBI agent in the show but come on bro, show some emotion. Emily, well... not the biggest fan. Don't get me wrong, I think she did ok performance wise, but I think it's mostly the character that I'm not digging. The emotionally detached lab rat who has a tragedy from her childhood that's driving her to her work and causes her to have relationship problems. Where have I heard this one before. I also think they need to keep her with her hair back like she had during the entire episode instead of the "beauty" shots they have of her online or in the "during commercials" segments. Straight hair pulled back = good, curled/teased hair + badly done makeup = bad. Check this link to her cast bio to see what I mean; compare her headshot to the picture above with her and David. Maybe you won't agree, but I think she looks a hell of a lot better more "au natural".

Wanted to check out the Season Premiere of House as well, but had to make an obligatory phone call to my sister to wish her a happy birthday, since I hadn't called her all day to say so. That conversation lasted a while, and by the time I was off the phone I wasn't going to tune in for the last 20 minutes of the show. House is a show that I enjoy whenever I watch it, but don't really go out of my way for. The Premiere looked like it would have been pretty good, but... I wouldn't know. Damn me and my lack of Tivo.

Update on the brother-in-law's job status: he officially has no job, and is moving back home again today. He's taking it pretty rough from what I understand, but that's totally, er... understandable. The situation would suck for anyone, but especially when it was to be his first gig out of college, I'm sure it's really disheartening. He even turned down other offers to take this job, too. At least he's lucky in the sense that he can move back in with his parents, I couldn't imagine someone coming from anywhere else, where they may have just left a job and had packed up and moved, only to find out they're now renting an apartment in the Saratoga area and are jobless. What the hell do you do then?
